Living in the tundra that is Upstate New York, the idea of summer is what gets everyone through the months of October to about April (March, if we’re lucky). The promise of sun, popsicles and hitting the quad is sometimes all that keeps us going. And then summer actually comes and everyone’s searching for ACs and biding their time until the sun goes behind a few clouds. Somehow we forget how hot it can get, until we’re melting on the street.

To survive the summer heatwave that’s taken over the country (it’s like 250-degrees Fahrenheit everyday), what’s a girl to do?

No need to go all out with a real pool, if you don’t already have one. Just pitch in with your friends to buy a kiddie pool. Cheap, cool and it’ll make for way better pictures. The only hard part is deciding who keeps it.

If you’re feeling a little light, slather on the sunscreen, don your cutest bathing suit and hit the nearest lawn chair. Stay home to take advantage of the sun and get back inside once the heat gets to you.

No, not the summer season, but a season of your favorite show. Stay inside and spend some time in a hopefully cooler fictional locale. I spent last summer’s heat wave starting (and finishing) True Blood and it’s highly recommend.
