Pap smear a year, keeps cancer at bay: Amy Jackson

I’m very excited about the initiative DNA has taken to raise awareness about cervical cancer and issues affecting women. It is exceptionally fantastic for women from all walks of life to come forward and be a part of this marathon. I have always stood up for causes that I strongly feel about and this one definitely needs to be addressed,” says actor Amy Jackson, who’s extremely happy to be a part of DNA’s I Can Women’s Half Marathon.
“It is vital that women be taken care of, their needs be fulfilled and they be given respect in our society. Cervical cancer, as a health threat,is not something that people, especially women, know or talk about. They do not understand the gravity of having cervical cancer when it can be prevented in time, as the process for detecting and treating it is quite simple. I became aware of cervical cancer when there was a huge campaign to spread awareness about it in UK. I learned that all it took was a pap smear test to detect it and prevent it. Women need to understand that an annual pap smear test is mandatory,” explains the young actor.
Amy is also all for safety for women in public places. “I live by myself in Mumbai. Though my mother was with me for sometime, she has returned to UK. There are times I get scared, but there are people around me who make sure I am safe. It is very imperative that single women in the city have the freedom to move around safely,” she said.
