Sundays are typically reserved as a day of relaxing, bingeing your favorite shows, and wearing cozy sweatsuits. But for one Sunday each spring, all of that gets put on hold in time to celebrate Easter. With so many different traditions, fun activities, and people to see, you’re probably wondering what to wear. And since you’ll want to balance classic holiday styles with a modern-day approach, we tapped an expert for advice.
“People are moving between church, brunch, outdoor egg hunts, and family gatherings, so I like to style looks that are versatile, polished, and practical for the entire day,” says personal and celebrity stylist, Erin Noël. When approaching Easter styling, she recommends thinking about how the day flows to plan your outfit. “Comfort and versatility are key, you need to be able to move and feel confident throughout the day,” she says. If you’re starting the day attending services but know you’re going to participate in an outdoor egg hunt later, footwear should be kept top of mind. “You’ll want something that won’t sink into the grass, like a wedge, a structured flat, or a sandal with a block heel,” Noël says.
In addition to comfort, Noël recommends focusing on color and silhouette. Don’t know where to start? It’s always a good idea to draw modern inspiration from looking at the past. “From the 1960s and '70s, we saw an emphasis on structured dresses, pastel palettes, and the classic Easter hat—a tradition that still feels nostalgic and chic,” Noël explains. “The 1990s and 2000s brought in more relaxed silhouettes, florals in all forms, and playful touches like gingham and eyelet textures.”
Many of these more traditional influences are still staples today—only reinterpreted to be more up-to-date. Ahead, are 12 outfit ideas to wear this Easter that are somewhere between traditional and modern.

Luckily, pastels, which are already associated with the holiday, happen to be super on trend this year. Noël says, “I typically gravitate toward pastels for Easter, they’re a timeless choice that feels fresh, celebratory, and perfect for any gathering.” A long-sleeved, powder blue draped midi dress is the ultimate example of a dress that will work throughout the day.
Royally Classic

Easter hats or bonnets are a common accessory that can be worn for the holiday. Just take a look at the royal family—the women have traditionally worn stylish hats on Easter Sunday. This year, we saw pillbox hats take over fashion week and therefore a quintessential holiday fashion statement. With a light, structured blazer and tailored trousers, you’ll be the fashionista at the function.
Easter Bunny-Inspired

If you’re celebrating with children, it’s always fun to incorporate some of the day’s folklore, like the Easter Bunny, into the holiday. Why not dress up for this year’s family egg hunt with a bunny-inspired look? It doesn’t hurt that white tights and sandals are still trending amongst fashion insiders. Pair your tights with a playful baby-pink minidress.
Pops of Pastel

No matter what you’re doing over the holiday, a staple black, knee-length skirt and matching light jacket is always a good idea—especially since the weather is still in transition. You can make your outfit more festive by adding small pops of pink and blue pastels throughout.
Lace to Easter Brunch

Bored of florals? Noël says, “If a client wore florals last year, I might suggest trying something different like a lace dress, a solid silk option, or a new texture that feels fresh but still special.” Switching things up with a light pink lace skirt will be all you need to feel fresh and special this year.
Basket Weaving

For some, it’s a tradition to give Easter baskets filled with sweets and goodies to friends and family. With that in mind, a woven straw hat and bucket bag feel on theme without being tacky or costume-like. Wear with a structured floral print coat and flats for a well-balanced look.
Parade-ing Around

If you live in a city, you might be stopping by your local Easter Parade. If so, you’ll want to wear something that easily catches the eye in a big crowd. Metallics and polka dots are one way to do exactly that. Pro tip: keep bright colors at a minimum since this kind of outfit already has a lot going on (in a good way!).
The Church-Goer

You might consider wearing a modest floral dress if you’re planning to attend church services. One thing Noël recommends is to check for any dress codes in advance so that you can make sure you’re dressed appropriately. If you’re already going to be wearing a beautiful printed dress, you might as well go all out with accessories like gloves, a headband, ankle-wrap heels, and a vanity-style purse.
Gingham Style

In addition to florals and pastels, according to Noël, “gingham also captures the essence of spring and makes for beautiful photo moments.” So if you’re looking for an alternative print, gingham is always a festive option. Wear the checkered print as a structured pencil skirt, paired with a T-shirt and sandals for a casual Easter weekend outing.
Visiting Family

Easter is a time for togetherness, so if you’re gathering with family and friends, Noël recommends adding a dose of texture to your outfit. “I love incorporating textured tweeds in a jacket to add depth and contrast to softer hues.” A great example of this is this yellow tweed jacket paired with tailored ivory trousers. A simple jacket, with its inherent texture, can make all the difference in an overall look. Accessorize with a flower belt, sunglasses, and a halo-shaped black hat for a classy holiday get-up.
Egg Hunt Ready

If you’re planning to participate in any outdoor egg hunt activities, it’s smart to consider your footwear. In this case, a pair of socks and ballet flats will not only be cute for brunch, but they’ll also be comfortable for the rest of the day’s happenings. Pair them with a cute gingham matching bandana set for an adorable holiday moment.
For Dinner

After a long day, you’ve finally made it to Easter dinner. You’ll want to look polished but still feel comfortable. One way to achieve this is by wearing a cozy, roomy sweater with an embroidered midi skirt. The relaxed top balances out the more elevated bottom. Add a pair of pointed-toe heels if you want to add a bit more sophistication.
