THE RUNDOWN:
- Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl comes out on October 3
- There are 12 tracks on the record
- Sabrina Carpenter is featuring on the record, on the final song
Since Sabrina Carpenter opened for Taylor Swift on the Australian, Latin American, and Singapore legs of the Eras Tour, fans have been asking, (nay, begging) for an official collaboration. On August 14, the timer on Swift’s website counted down to reveal the cover of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will officially be released on October 3 (yes, Mean Girls day).

We also have the track list.
Surprisingly short in its length, with only 12 songs (a far cry from the 31 songs on The Tortured Poet’s Department), fans quickly honed in on three things. Sabrina Carpenter has been confirmed to feature on the final track, also titled ‘The Life of a Showgirl’; Swift is pondering the age-old high school dilemma of whether to ‘Ruin the Friendship’; and track five, famously her most poignant track on each album, will speak about the difficulties of being the ‘Eldest Daughter’. As a youngest daughter myself, I assume it will weigh into the weight carried (and spoken about often) by eldest daughters.

The Carpenter news is definitely one of the most exciting announcements from the album, with the pair making an iconic pop duo on stage. The news also comes as Carpenter gears up for the release of her next album, Man’s Best Friend, which has been a polarising topic during the roll out of her album covers over the past few months. This is in large part thanks to the first cover released on June 12, which depicts Carpenter on all fours in front of a man who is grabbing her hair.
The announcements aren’t over for today though, with Swift appearing on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, which he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. Naturally, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more announcements as they roll in, as we’re sure she will be dropping plenty of easter eggs.
