HERZOGENAURACH – German sportswear brand Adidas has banned animal fur and joined the Fur Free Retailer (FFR) programme, despite not using any type of the material within its supply chain.

The company has made the decision to underline its position on the controversial use of animal-derived materials within apparel, and by doing so becomes the 1,500th company to join the FFR initiative, following the likes of H&M, Zara, Gucci and Prada.

Brigit Oele, programme manager at Fur Free Alliance, which initiated the FFR programme, said: “Not only is the commitment to a fur-free policy compassionate, it is also forward-thinking. Today’s consumers support fashion brands that care about animals and the environment and Adidas’ move towards sustainable materials makes it a leader in that regard.”
