“Where is my bag?” Demi Moore asked a friend as she made her way inside Chanel and Charles Finch’s iconic pre-Oscar party at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge on Saturday, March 1. Moments earlier, the Best Actress nominee playfully posed for photographers in a black sequined tweed jacket and short set embellished with camellias, pearls, rhinestones, and crystals. Once inside, The Substance star was greeted by both her daughter Scout Willis and her bag.

Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio, Colman Domingo, Kim Kardashian, Gayle King, and Mick Jagger mingled during cocktail hour before sitting down for dinner.

Naturally, there was no shortage of Chanel clad women. Lupita Nyong’o—whose project The Wild Robot is nominated for Best Animated Film—opted for a sheer black dress from the brand's spring-summer 2024 collection. “I’m gliding around,” she said. “That’s a lovely feeling. It’s giving flow. It’s giving effortless chic.”

Olivia Munn made it a date night with her husband, John Mulaney. She said Oscar weekend is starrier than their average evening out, which typically involves “talking about our kids the whole time.” The actress—and voting Academy member—wore a 1960s Chanel shift dress. “When I put it on, it felt like a little bit of a throwback with the tights and the thicker heel at the bottom,” she said, before sharing that her glam squad also taught her how to formally hold the bag’s chain. “They were trying to teach me about the Chanel wrap for the purse,” she explained, demonstrating.

Meanwhile, Lily-Rose Depp stunned in a white and light pink silk muslin dress. “This look is giving Chanel,” she said. “It’s giving gorgeous, Hollywood. I’ve loved this dress ever since I saw it on the runway and really wanted to wear it. Tonight felt like the perfect occasion.” She said this will be her first time attending the Oscars. “I’m excited,” she said. “Nervous, but excited.” As for her Oscar look, she teased it’ll be “full and magical.”

For her part, Riley Keough wore a white cotton tweed coat adorned with feathers from Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2024/25 Ready-to-Wear collection to the dinner. “It’s giving bird,” she joked. “It’s super stunning. I love wearing all white, and I love how short it is. It’s special, unique, and beautiful.”

Chanel has a long history of supporting cinema—from founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s time designing costumes in Hollywood to the label’s present day support of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences through a partnership with the Academy Museum’s Family Matinee screenings, which are free to the public this March—made possible by Chanel.
