Australian Fashion Week is officially underway in Sydney, kicking off with at the Carla Zampatti opening show on Monday night. It marked the 60th anniversary of the label, and with the Museum of Contemporary Art as the backdrop, models walked the palm tree- and bright light-lined runway, before attendees moved on to the official opening party.
The fashion set leaned into the after-dark party vibe, with sheer pieces layered underneath sharp tailoring, and semi-opaque tights worn with platform heels. As expected, leather and denim in cropped cuts and dark co-ords provided the balance between Sydney’s typically laidback style and the more formal theme of the night.
This year’s fashion week looks a bit different from years past. Following the exit of IMG in late 2024, the future of Australia’s premier fashion showcase was in question until the news broke in December that it would return as an industry-led event in 2025. With the newly formed Australian Fashion Council (AFC) and Destination NSW at the helm, the schedule sees both heritage and emerging Australian designers return to Carriageworks for another year.
Tuesday morning marks the first full day of shows at Carriageworks, starting with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony out the front of the precinct before New Zealand labels like Paris Georgia, Courtney Zheng, and Amy Lawrence showed their collections as part of The Frontier. Tuesday will also see designers like Lee Matthews, Beare Park, Nagnata, and Macgraw showing their resort 2026 collections. There are 30 designers on the schedule this year, which means there are plenty of opportunities to spot the best street style on the ground to inspire our looks for the season to come.
Ahead, see all the best street style we’ve spotted at Australian Fashion Week 2025, so far, and be sure to check back in as the week goes on.
