Amazon spotlights sustainability with new global initiative

SEATTLE – E-commerce giant Amazon has today unveiled Climate Pledge Friendly, a new programme which promises to spotlight more sustainable product alternatives on the company’s online marketplace.

Through this initiative, Amazon will initially verify 25,000 products across the industries of fashion, beauty, grocery, household and personal electronics having cross-checked them with 19 partnering third-party sustainability certification systems, which include Bluesign, Oeko-Tex and Textile Exchange’s Recycled Claim Standard, Global Recycled Standard, Organic Content Standard, and Responsible Wool Standard. 

Bluesign CEO Jill Dumain commented: “Amazon’s new programme will encourage brands and manufacturers to manufacture and source more sustainably, become verified, and grow their product selection. We are thrilled to partner as a verifying entity for Climate Pledge Friendly.”
