Apparel bodies urge US to act on Xinjiang

WASHINGTON DC – Five major apparel and retail trade bodies have written a joint letter to US legislators calling for “quick, clear, implementable and decisive action” on forced labour concerns in the Xinjiang region of China.

The US recently banned imports of all cotton products from Xinjiang over forced labour concerns while the House of Representatives has backed the proposed Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act, which would ban all imports from the region under the presumption they were made with forced labour.

In their joint letter to the US Congress, the American Apparel & Footwear Association, Footwear Distributors of America, National Retail Federation, Retail Industry Leaders Association, and the United States Fashion Industry Association reiterate their zero tolerance for forced labour.
