World-famous tennis star Aryna Sabalenka has confirmed her engagement to Brazilian entrepreneur Georgios Frangulis. The 27-year-old player from Belarus shared the news on Instagram, revealing that Frangulis had proposed. The announcement comes two years after the couple were first spotted together in April 2024. Sabalenka flashed a striking oval-cut engagement ring set on a pavé band, writing: “I can finally call him something else… FIANCÉ 💍”.

She also shared a video of the proposal, showing her fiancé on one knee beside a pool, framed by pink roses, with white petals scattered across the ground and candles flickering in the evening light. “You & me, forever,” she captioned the post, adding an infinity emoji alongside the date and a white heart and diamond ring emoji.

We’ve been seeing the (saucer-sized) oval-cut diamond as a celebrity engagement ring trend since 2024, and, based on Hailey Bieber’s recent investment and Sabalenka’s new sparkler, it is going nowhere. Cushla Whiting of jewellery brand Cushla Whiting says there are a few details about Sabalenka’s ring that make it distinctive. “The ring appears to feature a large oval brilliant-cut diamond of at least ten carats, set in platinum with a distinctive curving micro-pavé band that tapers and sweeps toward the centre stone.” Whiting notes that the diamond “looks slightly shallower in profile than some traditional ovals.” This can be an intentional choice. “Cutting [this way] maximises the face-up surface area and emphasises the elongated silhouette across the finger.” Whiting estimates the stone sits comfortably in the 10/12 carat range and could be valued at $1.5 million US.

The setting is another detail that accentuates the diamond’s striking size.”The curved micro-pavé band introduces a sculptural movement toward the centre stone, which helps accentuate the scale of the diamond while keeping the design clean and fluid,” Whiting explains.

While engagement ring trends come and go, oval cut diamonds have retained popularity over the last few years. “Their elongated proportions create a flattering look on the hand and often appear larger than round stones,” says Whiting, who maintains they’ve remained “incredibly popular.” “Oval diamonds have become one of the most requested engagement ring cuts due to their balance of brilliance, elegance and vintage appeal,” says Whiting, pointing to Cushla and Whiting’s popular “Victoria” style.

Aryna Sabalenka had previously hinted she might be expecting a proposal. In August 2025, she joked about the possibility after a couple became engaged during a match she was playing at the US Open.

“I think it’s the first time that someone proposed during my match, and it was a very sweet moment,” she said at a press conference, before glancing toward Frangulis and quipping: “I looked at my boyfriend. No pressure!” Still, it appears the proposal caught her off guard. In the video, she admitted she wished she had been given a little more notice, joking that she didn’t feel especially polished for the moment.

“Well, I obviously had NO idea this was happening tonight,” she wrote on the clip. Sabalenka was dressed casually in loose jeans and a simple white T-shirt, her hair plaited back. Her fiancé, however, clearly disagreed with her self-assessment, telling her she looked “pretty as f—”. Sabalenka began dating the 36-year-old entrepreneur in 2024. Frangulis is the founder of Oakberry, a superfood brand specialising in açaí products that launched in 2016 and has since expanded to more than 700 stores across 40 countries worldwide.

More recently, she playfully amped up the pressure during a speech at the Brisbane International tennis tournament in January 2026. After thanking her team for their support, Sabalenka turned to Frangulis and said, “Hopefully, soon I can call you something else.” “Let’s just put some extra pressure,” she added with a laugh.

It seems the hints worked.
