“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” wrote Jennifer Lopez, announcing her marriage to Ben Affleck in her newsletter, On The JLo, on Sunday. Flexibility, like patience, is one of the many virtues that make for a healthy relationship—and as it turns out, getting married in Vegas after midnight (and two decades of knowing each other) means you’ve got to be a little limber with the logistics.

The couple wed early Sunday morning at A Little White Wedding Chapel north of the Las Vegas strip. Affleck, who got ready in the chapel’s pink-tiled bathroom before the ceremony, didn’t even have to go buy a new jacket for the occasion.

“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” Lopez wrote in the newsletter. “Thank you to the Little White Wedding chapel for letting me use the break room to change while Ben changed in the men’s room.”

With a white rose fastened to one of his peak lapels, Affleck wore the fitted, ivory two-button tuxedo jacket with black trousers and a bowtie during the ceremony—a welcome departure from his slightly off white suits of yore. The groom briefly documented his process in a video posted to JLo’s newsletter platform. “And this was my wedding changing area,” he narrates, zooming into his reflection in the graffiti-scratched mirror.

In their something-old attire, Ben and Jen joined a long lineage of celebrities who got married at the Little White Wedding Chapel, including Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman in 1958, Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra in 1966, Britney Spears and her childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004 (followed by an annulment two days later), and Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas in 2019. The couple rekindled their romance last year, after 20 years and several marriages, high-profile relationships, and children between them since calling off their first engagement in 2003. (Last spring, GQ’s eagle-eyed Cam Wolf noticed Affleck was once again wearing a distinctive watch, which features a Franck Muller dial fastened to a Chrome Hearts bracelet, that JLo gifted him in 2002.) On Sunday, JLo announced their nuptials with an Instagram photo of her laying in bed, conspicuously displaying her shiny new wedding band. “Sadie!” she captioned the post, inadvertently entering herself into the ongoing Funny Girl discourse by referencing a lyric (“Sadie, Sadie, married lady/See what’s on my hand”) that protagonist Fanny Brice sings in the production.

Lopez also legally filed to change her name to Jennifer Lynn Affleck.
