BGMEA Election: Faruk Hasan leading ‘Sammilita Parishad’

The joint council or ‘Sammilita Parishad’ has appointed Farooq Hasan, former Vice-President and Managing Director of Giant Group, as the panel leader in the upcoming BGMEA biennial elections.

The ‘Sammilita Parishad’ has also started its official campaign by inaugurating the election office and praying in Gulshan on Monday.

A panel of followers of current BGMEA President Rubana Haque’s ‘Forum’ and a third panel, ‘Swadhinata Parishad’, led by Jahangir Alam, Owner of a design and source factory, are also contesting.

As a result, the picture of a three-pronged struggle in the leadership election of this top apparel organization of businessmen is gradually becoming clear.

If elected, Farooq Hasan has promised to fix the strategy to turn around the current predicament in the garment industry due to various reasons including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hasan said, “In the past, the garment industry was revived under the leadership of the Joint Council. The problems that have arisen now, I will deal with these in the future with the members. Year 2021 is very important to turn around.”

“That is why a lot of policy support is needed. The leaders elected from this panel are now in many important positions in the government. As a result, if elected, it will be much easier for me to work with their help.”

In the evening, the joint council organized a prayer program on the stage set up in the grounds of the election office.

Former BGMEA President and current Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, former BGMEA President Mostafa Golam Quddus, Abdus Salam Murshedy, BKMEA Senior Vice President Mohammad Hatem, Director Fazle Shamim Ehsan and other top leaders were present on the occasion.
