Celebs Are Nailing The Brief For Halloween This Year

Halloween is upon us and the best celebrity Halloween costumes are paying homage to your favourite pop culture moments, past and present. Each year, we look to the celebrity set to show us how Halloween is done. With money to burn, and easy access to Hollywood’s best makeup artists, the A-list tend to turn a great spooky-sexy costume.

With Halloween taking place on a Thursday this year, we technically have two ‘Halloweekends’ for celebs to roll out their headline-making dress ups. Selena Gomez and Sophie Turner were among the first to kick off festivities, with both sharing their Halloween looks to Instagram. Turner, dressed up as Trinity from The Matrix, while Selena donned an Alice in Wonderland couple’s costume with boyfriend Benny Blanco.

Cartoon characters seem to be a theme this year, with TikToker Alix Earle attending a party as the Cheshire Cat, and drag queen Trixie Mattel becoming Daphne from Scooby Doo.

Each year, it seems celebs up the ante of great Halloween costumes, producing more extravagant, clever and lifelike looks for us to fawn over. Here, some of our favourites from 2024 (so far).

This Alice In Wonderland-themed couple’s costume has Selena dressed as a very well-dressed Alice (are those shoes Chanel?!) and Benny as the Mad Hatter. The costumes were clearly in the vision vision of Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation.

The ‘Lizzo’ Drug from South Park

If you need an explanation behind Lizzo‘s surprising Halloween costume choice, look to her ‘appearance’ in South Park. In the show’s special called The End Of Obesity, the popular animation took aim at weight-loss drugs. “I’m going to write you a prescription for Lizzo,” a doctor tells a character on the show. “She’s a really good singer who talks about body positivity and just being happy with the way you look. I want you to listen to Lizzo five times a day and watch her videos just before bedtime. I’m afraid you’ll have to be on Lizzo for the rest of your life.”
