For a while there, we were into mild dishevelment. Hair that looked slightly unkempt — slept in, even — in the coolest of ways. Back in 2023, we marvelled at Kim Kardashian’s selfies in which her hair sported noticeable flyaways and kinks that made it look like she had just got out of bed. That same year, many articles were written about Zendaya’s and Kylie Jenner’s handcrafted waves and natural texture. We called it authentic — and made a mental note to stop brushing our own hair.
But things have shifted. Thanks to A-listers like Hailey Bieber, who has recently been spotted with everything from full-bodied ’80s-esque flicks to the chicest of mermaid waves, and Sydney Sweeney, who’s been sporting long, glossy barrel waves, there is a trend towards hairstyles that require both heat and a hairbrush to pack some glamour.
Happily, the party season is an excellent moment to embrace polished styles, so we asked a top hairstylist to talk elevated hair and how to get it.

How To Achieve The Cool-Girl Blowout:
With more events in the diary, the holiday season is a great time to put extra thought into your hair.
“People naturally go the extra mile during the festive months, and when it comes to hair, bigger, bouncier styles make a statement,” says Madison Voloshin, a leading hairstylist and Shark Beauty hair director. Luckily, with new tools on the market, increased styling doesn’t mean sacrificing hair health. Take Shark Beauty’s FlexStyle, which transforms from a hairdryer to a curling tong or hot brush with an easy twist, allowing you to create a host of styles without heat damage. “The possibilities are endless,” Voloshin says. “Think polished volume, soft curls and glossy finishes that bring a touch of glam to every celebration.”
‘Done’ hair doesn’t mean stiff, puffed-up strands that age you. Instead, it’s about finding that sweet spot between elevated and effortless. “I’m loving ‘cool girl’ blowouts and loose bends,” Voloshin says. “The look strikes the perfect balance between polished and relaxed — ideal for the party season.”
He recommends using Shark Beauty’s FlexStyle with the included auto-wrap curlers to easily create bouncy waves. “This hairstyle feels elevated but still undone, like you didn’t try too hard,” Voloshin explains. Complete your DIY styling session with a blast of cold air. “It helps to seal the style and add shine back into the hair cuticle,” Voloshin says. A finishing spray will add extra sheen and hold. “A product like Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray [$69] will help to lock everything in.”
