Just one month since touring the world to promote her movie Materialists—the polarising 117-minute offering from director Celine Song—Dakota Johnson is back with her next romantic comedy, Splitsville. And, to our absolute delight, with a new press tour comes a new Gucci gown!
Newly single Johnson, 35, shuffled atop the grey carpet at the film’s premiere at The Grove in Los Angeles on August 19 in a strapless, silver, leather dress and platforms. Cinched at the waist, it refracted the paparazzi lenses at every angle and will no doubt become as famous as the viral lip liner she rocked on her Materialists press tour. The actor was joined by her mother, Melanie Griffith, 68, who looked on adoringly at her daughter.
Speaking to Deadline about the film, in which Johnson plays a woman in an open marriage, she says it has “an interesting tone because I guess, off the bat, it reads as a comedy, but it’s a very soulful, unique comedy about two couples and the challenging dynamics of their relationships individually, and then their relationships intertwined with each other. It’s about the complexities of love.”
Reflecting on the notions of monogamy herself, Johnson continued: “I think it’s such an interesting topic because I don’t feel like there’s one right way to love, or one right way to live your life, and I think human beings are being allowed to evolve,” she said.
“I think it’s rare that we hear of people being in a partnership or a relationship that’s like, ‘Yeah, and then we grow together and separately, and it’s super healthy and fun.’ It’s rare that that happens. I don’t think there’s any right way. I feel like, if you want to have multiple relationships in your life, great. If you want to go really deep with one person, great. If you want to have both of those at the same time, great. Why not, really? But also scary, you know?”

Johnson made a quick wardrobe change into a emerald green mini to join the afterparty at Deliliah in West Hollywood. We can’t wait to see this film!
