Beyoncé has officially wrapped her Cowboy Carter tour in the most iconic and nostalgic way possible: by getting Destiny’s Child back together for one night only.
Dressed in spangled gold outfits complete with fringed and sequined chaps, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Beyoncé on stage during the Renaissance section of the concert. Beyoncé wore a huge smile as she posed with her friends and collaborators on stage following their performance, as Rowland spoke to the crowd and Williams leaned in to kiss Beyoncé on the cheek.
As predicted, fans were immediately screaming with joy as Destiny’s Child belted out a couple of their greatest hits. They kicked off the brief reunion with ‘Lose My Breath’, which was released 20 years ago on their final album together, aptly titled Destiny Fulfilled. The last time the trio performed the song was during Beyoncé’s headlining sets at Coachella in 2018. Though this time, they performed it as a mash-up with ‘Energy’ from Renaissance.
The short and sweet set also included a medly of ‘Say My Name’ and ‘Soldier’, and was closed out with ‘Bootylicious’. The last time the latter song was performed by Destiny’s Child was in 2013, during Beyoncé’s Super Bowl half time performance.
The group became megastars in the 1990s, and originally, there were four members: Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. The group is best known for being a trio, and were extremely popular even when they disbanded in 2006 to pursue solo careers. That said, they have reunited a few times over the years, leaving fans always hoping they’ll be in the lucky crowd that sees them perform together once again.
The Cowboy Carter tour has been making its way across America, England, and France since late April, wrapping up with two nights in Las Vegas over the weekend to close out the tour.
Beyonce closed out her tour with a message of gratitude to her fans and a reminder to own their stories. “Don’t ever ask permission for something that already belongs to you,” Beyoncé told the crowd. “God bless you, drive home safe, thank you for tonight! Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this a reality. I’m so deeply grateful.”
With the Cowboy Carter tour now having wrapped up in the northern hemisphere, Australian fans have been left wondering whether it will come to our shores as well. At this point, that’s sadly looking unlikely, but never say never.
