While we’re entirely over daily paparazzi shots threatening to spoil the plotline of the Devil Wears Prada sequel, we simply must fill you in on this one tid-bit: stars Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci were spotted filming a scene where it appeared their characters were attending somebody’s funeral.
Hathaway, 42, was captured shooting the scene in a park in New York, walking arm-in arm with a suited-up Tucci, 64, their faces solemn and sad. Dressed in a long black organza dress— with beautifully intricate pleating, might we add—wardrobe teamed Hathaway’s look with a long black coat and big, round sunglasses. Combined with the actor’s facial expressions, the mood felt more ‘funeral’ than ‘office fashion’. And while we can’t be certain of anything, Hathaway’s outfits have been filled with easter eggs thus far; the cerulean sweater, the Runway bag, the Chanel sandals, the list goes on.
Netizens have experienced a jump scare at the sight: could this be the funeral of someone their characters, Andy and Nigel, both know? Could it be Miranda Priestly? We certainly pray this is not the case! And it has been 20 years since we’ve seen this iconic pair so it could be literally anybody. We also would think the studio would do more to shield such a wild plotline from the paparazzi.
With the core cast set to return, The Devil Wears Prada 2 plot centres around Miranda dealing with an ailing publishing industry, while Emily Chalmers (played by Emily Blunt) is absolutely thriving at an LVMH-style brand. (May we reconfirm: real villain, Nate (played by Adrien Grenier), won’t be returning for the sequel. In fact, Australian actor Patrick Brammall takes this lead.)
So, you be the judge. What do you make of these dark outfits?
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release in May 2026.
