WAKEFIELD – With the fashion industry encroaching ever closer on natural habitats to source growing volumes of natural textile fibre, should it be forced to take some responsibility for the spread of COVID-19 which is rumoured, like many other diseases, to have stemmed from human-animal contact.
“A growing body of science shows that the degradation of these ecosystems not only erodes our climate and the health of biodiversity, it also creates dangerous conditions for new diseases that pose unprecedented threats to humanity,” says Nicole Rycroft, founder and executive director of environmental NGO, Canopy.
As industry plans its post-pandemic recovery then, how can it best address such risks in textile supply chains?
