The job a million girls would kill for is officially open again, with the release date for The Devil Wears Prada sequel confirmed.

The story of Andrea Sachs, the geeky aspiring journalist who (somehow) nabs an assistant position Runway (ahem, Vogue) assisting the formidable Miranda Priestly (ahem, Anna Wintour) and learns that head-to-toe (loaned) Chanel can’t by happiness has become something of a millennial parable since it was released in 2006. It’s long list of stars included Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, a delightfully snarky Gisele Bündchen and Simon Barker and Adrien Grenier as The Worst Men.

Now we’re delighted to confirm, courtesy of Deadline, that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is locked with a release date. Here’s what we know.

Which Actors Are Returning For The Devil Wears Prada Sequel?

While the cast has not been officially confirmed it’s been rumoured Meryl Streep is set to return for some time. After all, it’s hard to imagine anyone else as notorious Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt has hinted she’ll be taking her cold and flu tablets and returning as the ambitious and overworked Emily.

Previously, Blunt had expressed doubt at the possibility of a sequel, telling People, “If everyone did it I would be up for it. I almost hope it doesn’t [happen] because I think sometimes when you sequel everything it kind of dilutes how special the original is.” Luckily, it looks like she’s changed her mind. “There’s rumblings, there’s stuff churning around, but I don’t know if I can confirm anything completely… but we would be all delighted to work together again,” she told reporters in Saudi Arabia at the Red Sea Film Festival in December last year.

And despite drawing significant parallels with her character Andy Sachs in recent years, there’s no word yet on whether Anne Hathaway will return in her iconic role. The actress has expressed hesitancy about the possibility of a sequel, telling E! News in March, “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.”

She continued, “The truth of the matter is—with any film—all we can do is make it. The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it’s the love that everybody pours to it.”

Hathaway expressed a similar sentiment in an appearance on The View back in 2022, saying, “I don’t know if there can be [a sequel movie].

“I just think that movie was in a different era, you know? Now, everything’s gone so digital, and that movie centred around the concept of producing a physical thing. It’s just very different now.”

And what about much loved Stanley Tucci? He seems down recently telling Variety: “I know they’re working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something. [The original] was one of the best experiences ever.

What Will The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Be About?

According to Variety, the original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is confirmed along with producer Wendy Finerman. The film will follow Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional magazine publishing. Specifically, Puck reported the sequel will chart “the dystopian post-aughts realities of the magazine business,” and will see Priestly battle it out with her former assistant Emily, who is now a “high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”

When Will The Devil Wears Prada 2 Be Released?

The sequel will hit theatres May 1, 2026. Mark your calendars.
