Fashion retailers urged to act on returns

LONDON – A report published as part of the British Fashion Council’s Circular Fashion Ecosystem Project has laid bare the challenges facing the industry regarding the environmental and economic impacts of customers persistently returning apparel. 

The 106-page document urges the sector to reassess its relationship with returns, given that the environmental impact of products being repeatedly shipped and packaged has “not been fully understood until now”. 

For discernible progress to be made, the report insists that industrywide collaboration will be required as brands and retailers must move “ahead of government or legal requirements”.
