Margaret Qualley is currently on her press tour for Honey Don’t! – a queer true-crime story in which she co-stars with Aubrey Plaza. While her character, Honey O’Donahue — a small-town private investigator looking into a series of unsolved deaths — favours 1950s-style vintage dresses, Qualley has been serving a ’90s supermodel aesthetic, and we’re lapping up the new look.
While she’s been known for her floaty and feminine Chanel gowns on the red carpet, the star has recently embraced thigh-grazing minis, and one of them is available to shop.

On August 14, Qualley appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in a white halter-neck linen mini by Australian label SIR. The brand is known for its breezy dresses that toe a perfect line between formal wear and casual attire and is favoured by Margot Robbie, Lily Aldrige and Vanessa Hudgens. The look instantly had us charmed.
The square neckline feels fresher than the coquettish styles we usually associate with little white dresses. Meanwhile, the thick shoulder straps define the bustline, and the 100% linen fabrication is breathable and perfect for summer. Subtle ruching at the waist creates a flattering, hourglass fit. Qualley styled the look with minimal jewellery, save for her wedding ring from her husband, Jack Antonoff, and a pair of white stiletto heels.

Press-tour watchers have noted that Qualley has switched up her beauty look to match the ’90s supermodel brief. She’s swapped her usual porcelain glow and soft waves for a subtle tan, and her beauty look is minimal: think nude lips, a swipe of liner and bronzed, glowing cheeks. Meanwhile, she’s traded her long, romantic waves for slicked-back hair or a flipped, 1950s-style bob, as seen on The Tonight Show.

The SIR dress is certainly more accessible than the viral look she wore a few nights before: a custom Chanel LBD that seemed to herald a new vibe both for Qualley’s red-carpet appearances and possibly for the house itself under a new creative director.
Qualley’s sparkling personality has been on show during the press tour (adding to rumours that Emily Ratajkowski’s bubbly, cool-girl character in Lena Dunham’s Too Much is based on her). She invited Fallon to play a game of Truth or Dare, quizzing him on how many people he’s slept with and quipping, “all lesbian detective thriller films have Aubrey Plaza in them.”

Her Chanel dress wasn’t her only viral moment, though. On the Today morning show Qualley seemed caught off guard when host Craig Melvin quizzed her about Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. Qualley’s husband Jack Antonoff has collaborated with Swift on ten albums and several singles, but his name is notably absent from the list of producers on her upcoming release. After noting Swift and Antonoff’s long history of working together, Melvin asked Qualley to “tell us about” the record. Her eyes widened, her smile dropped, and she replied, “I don’t know anything.” She then burst out laughing and added, “I’ll be excited to listen to the music.”
She’s unlikely to let the moment hold her back. Her new look seems to be signalling a new era as an A-lister following her turn in The Substance. She’s just appeared in Happy Gilmore 2 and will be taking the lead role in Victorian Psycho, a hotly anticipated horror that A24 secured the rights to late last year. Qualley will follow that up with The Dog Stars, a post-apocalyptic science-fiction film with blockbuster maestro Ridley Scott.
We’re just happy to hear her press tour looks aren’t slowing down any time soon.
