THE RUNDOWN:

  • Hailee Steinfeld showed off her wedding band at Paris Couture Week
  • The band features large oval diamonds and is a style last popular in the 90s.
  • Steinfeld has been seen wearing her wedding band and her engagement ring “stacked”, but jewellers say brides are increasingly opting for glitzier wedding bands worn alone.

Newlywed Hailee Steinfeld stole the show at Paris Couture Week – and not just because of her glittering outfit.

The Sinners actor’s engagement ring and wedding band from Josh Allen sparkled in the front row – and it’s a controversial style. Steinfeld’s wedding ring is an eternity band last popular in the 90s.

Steinfeld and Allen got engaged in November 2024 when the Buffalo Bills quarterback proposed with a 4-carat round diamond set on a slim platinum band (speculated to be worth anywhere between US$70,000 and $150,00). Like Lauren Sánchez Bezos Steinfeld’s engagement ring sits on a diamond pave band with a cathedral setting that supports the large stones’ durability (although Steinfeld’s is admittedly more modest in size). The couple married in May this year, at which point Steinfeld added a diamond-studded eternity band to her ring stack. The thick band features large diamonds, and it’s been noted that Steinfeld often doesn’t wear both rings at once – indeed, she was wearing her wedding band solo sitting front row at Tamara Ralph’s show.

Steph Mazuera, who owns a namesake jewellery brand, told ELLE UK that this is a trend in bridal jewellery. “Her wedding band is substantial enough to make a statement on its own, something I’m seeing more and more of, especially with clients who opt for larger centre stones in their engagement rings. Many choose to wear just their wedding band on certain days, so designing a band that shines independently has become a more popular consideration.”

Steinfeld’s wedding band features large oval diamonds, and Mazuera noted that Steinfeld’s engagement ring’s cathedral setting “lifts the stone just enough to let the band sit flush underneath, creating a striking stack.”

However, she was spotted by People just days before wearing the two together, and we can assume their photographers didn’t need a long lens camera, as the combination is visible from a distance

Lauren Boc, CEO and founder of Hera Fine Jewellery, noted that Steinfeld’s choice demonstrates how modern brides are breaking with tradition and trends. “A round diamond engagement ring with a pavé wedding band isn’t really trendy—it’s very classic,” Boc says. “I hope Hailee’s choice inspires people to get the ring they love and not worry about what’s popular right now. I always tell our clients at Hera that what matters is that you love your ring, whether that means something trendy, classic, or totally unique.”

The Eternity Band Engagement Ring Trend

But the eternity band may be becoming a popular engagement ring style. Jewellery expert Kira Kirby posted about the controversial engagement ring trend on TikTok. “I’ve said this before, I will say it again, eternity bands as engagement rings, this is a trend that is not going away anytime soon,” she said, pointing to a ring from Prestwick Palace jewellers. Her fans agreed. “Their, did I gasp, it’s perfection,” said one user.”
