Patent footwear is a trend that’s slowly gaining momentum. I’ve had my eye on a pair Saint Laurent slingbacks in a high-shine finish for months now but, prior to that, the fabrication had completely fallen off my radar. Of course, there was a buzz surrounding vinyl coats not all that long ago, but shoes? They generally hadn’t been given the glossy treatment in years. Now, however, I expect that all to change after Hailey Bieber stepped out in a sleek knee-high patent boot this week. Turns out, I’m not the only one who’s into Saint Laurent’s current aesthetic, as Bieber’s coat, purse and boots all come from the French fashion house. My favourite component of her outfit, however, is her patent-boot and sheer-tight pairing, which feels distinctly after-dark Parisian to me.
