Chanel shows never leave us wanting when it comes to what’s on the runway and who is there looking at it from the front row. Today saw the first haute couture show without Karl Lagerfeld at the helm, but his strong vision could still be keenly felt through the decisions his successor, long-time Chanel collaborator Virginie Viard, introduced. From the austere buttoned bouclé coats through to the white hosiery worn with bow-fronted monochrome pumps, there were continuing themes that Monsieur Lagerfeld has touched upon so many times over the decade, only things felt a little more restrained, a little quieter and less elaborate than the couture shows of previous seasons.
