I Swap My Heavy Foundation for This Radiance-Boosting Skin Tint Every Spring

It’s from a Pamela Anderson-used brand.

After some iffy weather fluctuations, I’ve finally stuffed my fuzzy, fleece outerwear into airtight bags and stashed them beneath my bed (motorcycle jackets, denim coats, and similar seasonal wears have usurped the closet space). Likewise, I’ve swapped my heavy, full-coverage foundations for breezier skin tints—the likes of which deliver a your-skin-but-better vibe that’s apt for sunny days ahead.

I’ve tried hundreds of tinted moisturizers over the years, but the Halo Healthy Glow All-in-One Tinted Moisturizer from Smashbox (a brand Pamela Anderson also uses), is among my current favorites. A lightweight skin-enhancer, it camouflages uneven tone and delivers a dewy, healthy-looking radiance in seconds. But in addition to facilitating glowy no-makeup-makeup looks, it supercharges my skin care efforts and supports a softer, more youthful look with its complexion-loving formula.

The tinted moisturizer contains SPF 25, making it a win for preventing sun damage, particularly in the seasons ahead. Hyaluronic acid is also present; a humectant, it attracts moisture from the surrounding air, thereby plumping withered skin and smoothing fine lines on contact. In Smashbox’s tinted moisturizer, it quenches thirsty skin—a godsend for my dry complexion, which looks bouncy and glasslike post-application.

Notably, the tint also features niacinamide—an ingredient dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban, MD previously dubbed a “super vitamin” thanks to its “multi-dimensional” benefits in a previous InStyle interview.  For one, it calms “redness and irritation,” dermatologist Dr. Serena Mraz, MD once told InStyle, and “restores the skin barrier” for softer, more youthful-looking skin. Niacinamide also diminishes existing signs of aging, including hyperpigmentation, Dr. Shamban added.

Smashbox’s skin tint has a lightweight, fluid feel and a significantly lower viscosity than most foundations. It wears with unparalleled breathability, making it a win for sweaty situations and anyone who prefers a bare-skin feel. An almond-sized dollop suffices for covering my entire face, which adopts a glowing, healthy appearance on even its dullest, sallowest days. The finish is cake-free and remarkably skin-like, with just enough coverage to enhance—without suggesting that you’ve applied even a stitch of makeup. Case in point: My fiancé said he liked my “makeup-free” face after I’d slapped on the skin tint to run errands last weekend.

For glowing, even-toned skin in seconds, shop the tint I’m wearing all spring: the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow All-in-One Tinted Moisturizer. Consider more of my favorite tinted moisturizers, below.
