I Tried on One Minidress and It Changed My Mind About Short Hemlines

When it comes to dresses, the midi has seemed like the one style that women want to wear over the past few years. Whether slips, wrap dresses or button-front styles, the one thing all these trending dresses have in common is that they fall on the calf. My knees, for one, have spent the past three summers firmly hidden behind floral sundresses.

The midis are certainly not going anywhere, and trust me—I don’t want them to, as they take up half of my wardrobe. But this season, hemlines are steadily rising again, as minidresses are no longer reserved for just going out.

Brands like Rixo, Réalisation and Reformation who made floral midis an essential part of our summer wardrobe, are revisiting mini silhouettes. The dress that convinced me I could be a minidress person after years of covering my legs is the Rhode Ella. This is a belted dress which falls on the thigh and has oversized sleeves, a thick rope belt and a fluted skirt and comes in every colour and print you could hope for. It’s a dress worthy of its cult status.
