M.Gemi / InStyle
I was prepping for a trip to Miami a few weeks ago and felt like I had nothing fun in my closet. This happens every year, especially after a cold winter that calls for dark-hued, inherently simple clothing that kind of, sort of, makes me lose my fashion creativity. So, I was determined to find something conversation-sparking, when I eventually landed on M.Gemi’s then-new Amabile Mary Jane Flats (which are currently on rare sale for InStyle readers only with the code FORYOU20) and knew: These were it.
I’ve been a longtime fan of anything from M.Gemi, so the discovery made sense. But the style? A bit outside of my wheelhouse. Unlike the simple leather flats I typically opt for, these were fairly divisive, though very on trend for summer 2025 (Nicole Kidman recently wore an iteration of netted ballerinas, too). These from M.Gemi had a full mesh upper, which meant my feet were on full display. I went with the raspberry red color, a subtle red-pink that I knew would offer the perfect pop of color for Miami outfits—and beyond. I was right, but what I wasn't sure about was how they would feel.

So, I did the most unhinged (?) thing ever: I wore them straight-out-of-the-box for my three-plus hours of travel to Miami, trekking through airports and long TSA lines (just kidding, thank goodness for PreCheck). But nevertheless, it was an action packed morning that really put them to the test because I was on my feet (a lot), not to mention dealing with cramped airplane seats, swollen feet, and an (unexpected) sprint here and there. And, they passed with flying colors—in fact, the Amabile actually exceeded my expectations.
The mesh was not only breathable (because, well, duh,) but was also flexible, which meant they shaped to my feet—and got even comfier as the day went on. Sure, there was a little bit of wear-on time, and really, what shoe doesn't require that? Overall, the fit was incredibly comfy with zero break-in time. Other loves? The adjustable patent leather buckle and the comfy footbed that didn’t feel too flat (like some of my other ballerinas).
Now, I pretty much wear them all the time, especially given how buzzy mesh flats are right now and how genius the breathable silhouette is for summer. So much so, in fact, I’m considering adding a second color to my rotation; there’s versatile sand, classic black, sleek white, and easygoing navy. But of course, the best part is that they’re now 20 percent off (for you and me only!) with the code FORYOU20.
