If You’re Looking For Perfect Flared Jeans, I’ve Found Them

As a self-described 70s tragic, I’ve spent far too many hours scouring the internet in search of the best flared jeans you can buy in Australia. I’ve bought plenty of denim that just didn’t land – I wanted a high waist, that great, booty-lifting fit, and of course a proper flare that hits just right, folding slightly in flats and skimming the floor in a heel. Obviously, given I’m writing this piece, I found them.

It was around three years ago when I discovered Rolla’s, an Australian label, founded in Melbourne, and it was their cult Eastcoast Flares that caught my bohemian-loving attention.

Originally, Eastcoast Flares came in Karen Blue, and a few cord varieties including a tan colour, which I also purchased. But the fit – which remains the same – was perfect. Hitting just above my bellybutton, they managed to pull me in where I wanted to be, without too much stretch involved which would take away from the 70s fit and feel.

The denim is stiff with a little stretch, although it varies depending on colour. The black denim, for example, is VERY stretchy but it works with that material in a way it wouldn’t work on the soft, light denim of the Karen Blue. The cords are also quite stretchy, and while I’m a fan I honestly don’t own any pairs beyond the tan shade because I tend to be a denim gal at heart.

A word of advice: In sizing, I’m a 27 for the most part in the Eastcoast Flare, but it does vary depending on material. Each denim type they use is a little different – like I said, some have stretch, especially the darker shades, and some are more stiff. The brown cords above, I did try, and found they fit a little tighter than the tan.

While I’ve been a fan of the flare for eternity, recently they’ve popped back on the radar following Kendrick Lamar’s Celine outing at the Superbowl halftime. The Celine Marco topped Lyst’s Q1 index for 2025 and a few weeks later, Rihanna was spotted wearing them. They’ve since been worn by Timothée Chalamet, Bella Hadid, Pixie Geldoff and more. Call it a revival, call it a backlash against the skinny leg jeans trend everyone is trying to make happen. All I know is I’m well placed to advise if you’re looking to explore this particular trend.

While I’ve found my favourites, flares are not one flare fits all. So here are some other brands and styles I’ve liked almost as much.

How To Style Flared Jeans

Sure, 70s style might be chic for some (me) but it’s not for everyone. Fortunately for you there are plenty of ways to wear flares in 2025. For instance, pair floor sweeping Kendrick style flares with pointy-toe heels and glamorously nonchalant look or play with volume and go for a layered look styling with a blazer or trench coat (a style that’s slim through the thigh like The Arrow jean will help keep things streamlined).
