I’m completely baffled by skinny jean’s slow comeback. Not even at their peak did I enjoy jumping into the skin-tight style. So this time around, I’m politely opting out. Instead, I’ll be reaching for the ultra-comfy jeans Miley Cyrus just wore.
Cyrus stepped out earlier this week wearing a casual-cool look I’m desperate to recreate: giant blue-tinted sunnies, a fuzzy black tank, easy slides, and those aforementioned jeans. They were big, baggy, and effortlessly cool. Even I, someone who tends to avoid jeans altogether, had an I-need-those-now moment. So I started looking for a pair of my own, and narrowed it down to eight styles. IMO, you can never go wrong with a pair of Levi’s, but of all the brand’s baggy styles, this is the one that stood out to me. The trap you can fall into with a relaxed, roomy silhouette is that it can read very casual, but there are ways to avoid that: good tailoring, dressier pairings, or, in the case of these jeans, a high, belted waist.

To recreate Cyrus’s all-black look, you’ll want to snag Madewell’s low-waisted baggy jeans in this vintage-inspired black. The denim has super subtle fading throughout and the jeans are finished—or, perhaps more aptly, unfinished—with a cool raw hem. I actually own an older version of this style and am completely in love with them, from their laid-back look to how the denim gets softer with each wear. While the name might suggest that these sit low, I found them to be more of a mid-rise. I also would recommend sizing up one to two sizes if you want that really baggy fit Cyrus has.
