It’s no secret that Jennifer Aniston’s hair is universally fawned over. From her days of inspiring millions of women to get “The Rachel“ cut during her time on Friends to the honeyed, long layers that have become her signature, Aniston has long been the celeb to watch when it comes to hair inspo. “Behind every great head of hair is a great stylist, and I think we have Chris McMillan to thank for making Jen’s hair iconic, starting with ‘The Rachel' haircut,” says Travis Ogletree, a Los Angeles-based celebrity hairstylist and founder of Treehouse Studio. “Once you have a trendsetting look like that, it becomes this ongoing question of, ‘What will they do next?’ I think people want to emulate her hair’s effortlessness, that consistency, and that subtle evolution over the years.”
We’re all about emulating Aniston’s effortless vibes for our own strands, which is why our team of editors decided to test and review each item from her cruelty-free haircare brand, LolaVie. Inspired by the star’s desire to infuse the best of beauty with science-based solutions, the line (named after her first car when she moved to L.A.) is designed to make all hair types look their best in a healthy, environmentally sustainable way. “What I love most is how simple yet versatile the line is,” says Ogletree, who is also an ambassador for the brand. “Air-drying my medium-fine, wavy hair has always been a challenge, and finding something that tames frizz without weighing it down has been tricky. The Perfecting Leave-In and Glossing Detangler are total game changers for me. I also love that there’s heat protection built in, so if I want to touch up with a hot tool or blow-dry, I’m covered,” he explains.
To help you determine which LolaVie products are right for your unique strands (though if you decide to overhaul your haircare routine with the whole line, we won’t judge), we tested popular options from the line to see how each performed across our InStyle team’s diverse range of hair types. Consider this your go-to guide for a brand that’s a classic in the making.
LolaVie Sculpting Paste

LolaVie
Unfortunately, frizzy hair is an evergreen struggle of mine that isn't limited to just the summer humidity. Because of this, I'm always looking for hair solutions to tame down my frizz and make my hair look more sleek and put-together, especially for ponytails and slicked-back braids. I've tested hair sticks, lotions, sprays, mousses—you name it—to achieve that beautiful, slick, and glossy look for updos, and none have been better than the LolaVie Sculpting Paste. I mean it: I threw away the other one I had been using after using this the first time, knowing I could never go back to my old ways. It has a thick creamy texture (it is a paste, after all), but once it's in your hair, it feels lightweight and smooth without a pasty or crunchy look. It also smells divine! —Erika Reals, senior editor, 2A hair
LolaVie Perfecting Leave-In Conditioner

LolaVie
This leave-in totally exceeded my expectations. It softened and defined my dry, tangled hair within seconds. The consistency is like lotion, and it feels incredibly lightweight on the hair, making it perfect for a mid-week refresh. —Essence Wiley, writer, 4A/4B hair

LolaVie Lightweight Hair Oil

LolaVie
As someone with perpetually frizzy, unwieldy fine hair, let me just say that this hair oil was a game changer. Just the tiniest drop of it made my strands so fine and smooth, sans any unwanted greasy feeling or stickiness. It truly felt lightweight and worked well whether I applied it to the top of my head to tame flyaways or massaged it into the ends of my locks for a sleeker look. It was shocking to me how much of a difference such a tiny amount of product made. I wore the oil when visiting my mom, and she even asked what I had done differently to my hair. —Allison Lax, writer, 1A hair
LolaVie Glossing Detangler

LolaVie
The Glossing Detangler is a savior for me. I spray it all over my hair when it's towel-dried and damp, and then I can run a brush through it without any issues. I notice a solid shine throughout my locks after I give them a nice blowout, too. After using it consistently for a month, my hair looks and feels softer, as if I had just left a salon. —Summer Cartwright, senior editor, 2B hair
LolaVie Wet Brush Pro Flex Dry

LolaVie
This brush is simple but so effective, smoothing out my hair and untangling knots effortlessly. I have pretty long hair right now, and so my brushes clog up pretty quickly, and the least fun thing ever is having to pull out your hair from the brush. But something about this brush made it super easy to clean out the dead hair, more so than other brushes I own. —Erika Reals, senior editor, 2A hair
LolaVie Intensive Repair Treatment

LolaVie
I’m the type to put my strands through a lot regularly (think more heat styling than my hairdresser recommends), so I really appreciated how much damage control this treatment did in a short amount of time. It only took using the product once a week to restore the shine and smoothness my strands had been desperately craving. As I continue to use it, I’m also starting to notice less breakage in the shower, which feels like a major win for my haircare routine. —Allison Lax, writer, 1A hair

What to Keep in Mind
- Ingredients: While plenty of haircare companies make vague promises when it comes to the use of healthy ingredients and sustainable practices, LolaVie walks the walk. “LolaVie uses carefully selected ingredients like squalane, coconut oil, and vitamin E to hydrate, protect, and nourish the hair, all while being free from sulfates, parabens, and silicones,” says Jennifer Korab, a New Jersey-based professional hairstylist and founder of Renaissance Salon & Spa. The brand has also stated its commitment to fortifying its products with bamboo essence, rather than de-ionized (common) water, which supports sustainable water management for the planet. Additionally, Korab appreciates the line’s refreshing scent, which is a LolaVie staple. “The fragrance is light and fresh, offering a subtle, clean scent that isn’t too strong,” she says.
- Hair Type: One of the key features of the LolaVie line is that each product is designed to work well with and enhance all hair types. That said, there are certain formulas that Korab especially recommends for particular textures. “The Glossing Detangler is ideal for fine to medium hair, as it detangles, adds shine, and provides heat protection without weighing it down,” Korab says. “The Restorative Shampoo and Conditioner are great for dry, damaged, or thicker hair, offering deep hydration and nourishment, but may feel a bit heavy for finer hair.”
- Routine: If you’ve already established a haircare routine that works for you, there's no need to overhaul it completely to experience the benefits of LolaVie (though if you ultimately decide to, so you can enjoy the full effect, we totally understand). When switching to a new line, Korab recommends starting by replacing one or two products in your current routine to see how your hair adjusts. “To incorporate LolaVie into your routine, I’d suggest starting with the Restorative Shampoo and Conditioner for hydration and nourishment,” says Korab. “I would then add the Glossing Detangler for shine and heat protection, and the Perfecting Leave-In for moisture and frizz control.” Korab also notes that clean formulas, such as LolaVie’s, may take a bit longer to show results, so consistency is key. “I would also adjust the amount of product based on your hair type—finer hair needs less, while thicker or curlier hair will need more,” she explains.
