Despite a steadfast commitment to privacy that has kept him off social media for, well, his entire career, Josh Hartnett has officially (and rather surprisingly) made his Instagram debut. The Trap actor hopped on the app to promote his new action thriller Fight or Flight, in which he stars alongside Bridgerton's Charithra Chandran, Julian Kostov, Katee Sackhoff, and Marko Zaror.
In one post, Hartnett appears in a selfie video with the text: "Me promoting my film before ghosting social media for another 10 years." He then jokingly explained himself further in the caption: "When your team insists on a social media content day to promote your new film, Fight or Flight (in theaters May 9), but you don’t get any of these viral trends."

Apart from his allergy to social media, Hartnett's penchant for privacy also caused a departure from Los Angeles. The actor relocated to England with his wife, Tamsin Egerton, and the couple now lives Hampshire countryside with their four children.
"Hollywood is more than a place; it's like a state of mind," he told People. "If you're around people who are constantly talking about the movie business, your life is going to be pretty much one note. And I've never wanted that. I've always wanted to be around … people generally doing lots of other things that would bring my mind off of my work and force me to grow in different directions."

Though his time on Instagram is clearly temporary, that didn't stop fans from encouraging the actor, with one commenting, "please josh you need to come back (actually come back)," and another joking that "2035 shaking in its boots right now" at the thought of Hartnett returning again in a decade.
As for Fight or Flight, Hartnett says he was drawn to the film for its nostalgic blend of humor and action.
"I liked the element of sort of '90s style comedy, action, it felt like a throwback, contained action film, and I liked the character too," he told GamesRadar. "I thought the character kind of just starting at the very bottom and trying to work him back up to a place where he had some dignity would be a lot of fun."
