Kate Middleton may be slowly stepping back into the spotlight, but that doesn't mean the challenging year she's had is completely behind her.
On Friday, the Princess of Wales hosted her fourth annual "Together at Christmas" carol service as one of her first major royal engagements since completing her chemotherapy treatment. And while it might've seemed as if everything was back to normal, one guest at the concert noted that Middleton had put on "a brave face."

According to attendee Jenny Powell, who helps people with disabilities in her town of Abergavenny in South Wales, Princess Kate, Prince William, and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—were all in high spirits at the event in light of Middleton's health issues. "They looked so happy together," Powell told People.
“It’s been a hard year, but she [Kate] put that brave face on and she looked absolutely gorgeous," she added.

Powell also revealed that Middleton placed a letter on the chair of each guest that summed up the event's theme of love and kindness. “It was a gorgeous letter,” Powell said. “It really showed her appreciation of what we’re all doing. It was quite touching and brought tears to my eyes."
She continued, "These things that I’ve been doing have impacted the lives of people I’ve been supporting, but knowing that the royal family is aware of these little things is lovely.”

During the event, Princess Kate made a rare, emotional comment about her cancer journey. In a video shared to X by Channel 5 News, Middleton can be seen talking to singer Paloma Faith about her health, telling her: "I didn’t know this year was going to be the year that I’ve just had," Middleton said.
"The unplanned," Faith chimed in, to which Middleton responded, "The unplanned, exactly." She added, "But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times."
