While Kylie Jenner might be our new best friend after sharing the details of her breast implants, we’ve arguably spent more time pondering the mysteries of Kendall Jenner’s incredible collection of basic white tees and tanks than Kylie’s… assets. Kendall’s style is the epitome of laid back, nonchalant chic and basic white tees and tanks are the centrepiece of her look. Kendall Jenner’s tank tops are the perfect compliment to barrel leg jeans and provide just the right contrast when worn with her high end accessories (think The Row Margaux or her allegedly extensive collection of Hermès Kelly bags).
We’ve always assumed Jenner’s collection of perfect basics are the kind of sneaky commonplace wardrobe items that come at an exorbitant price tag. While the ribbed tank is an American Walmart icon, there’s no shortage of high end brands vying to perfect the classic. Prada have their tank that comes emblazoned with the triangle house logo, Chloé and The Row have their own iterations. We assumed Jenner’s flawlessly form-fitting sexily sheer iteration was from one of these labels.
But not so! In May Jenner appeared at a Knicks game third wheeling with Kylie and uber-Knicks fan Timothée Chalamet. She wore a simple outfit: leather pants, a Knicks baseball cap, strappy heels and a form fitting, slightly sheer white tank top.
But, not so. Influencer and podcast host Tinx was as compelled by the look as we were and got to work Id’ing the wardrobe item.
Turns out, it rings in in the single digits.
“The other day, I was fixating on this picture because Kendall’s white tank is perfect, so I asked my loving community of fellow shopaholics, ‘Where do you guys think its from?’. Tinx reports she has it on good authority it’s the Hanes Bys Ecosmart Cotton Tank $37.58 for a pack of five on Amazon, or, $4.50 a pop.

The Hanes boys tank is something of an American icon. In the US they’re sold in bulk packs of five and while they are available in women’s, it’s the boy’s version that’s considered “cult”.
The tank comes sans some of the usual issues associated with affordable (or even luxury) singlet tops. It’s tagless so while the fabric is sheer it has a totally smooth fit. With 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester composition it has just the right amount of stretch while still offering support and they’re preshrunk so you don’t need to wait until they’ve been through the wash a few times. Of course, Jenner herself hasn’t confirmed that she’s wearing Hanes (she’s not as inclined to sharing as her sister) but the top Tinx modelled is such a close match the issue is basically moot.
If you’re shopping these remember they’re boys sizes. Tinx picked up a size large which fits her well so use that as a reference point and check the specs.
