Lewis Hamilton’s New Helmet Reflects His Statement-Making Style

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton sure knows how to stand out in a crowd. The title of being the sport’s first-ever Black driver brought with it a tremendous amount of pressure and responsibility, but also the visibility to create real change in a sport historically linked to both international prestige and the wealth gap. Aside from his notable philanthropic efforts and his advocacy work surrounding social change and racial equality, Hamilton has also made a name for himself in the world of fashion. He also served as an honorary co-chair at the 2025 Met Gala. While his announcement as co-chair further cemented his position in the fashion industry, it came as a shock to no one—Hamilton had been spotted using the paddock as his personal runway long before buddying up with Anna Wintour and Pharrell. Today, Hamilton has become a prominent fashion fixture, collaborating with the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Rimowa, Dior and Lululemon. Stylist Eric McNeal has helped craft Hamilton’s presence on the red carpet, helping the driver escape the never-ending cycle of boring black suits that the men in attendance typically opt for. One of my personal favourites: his look at last year’s GQ’s Global Creativity Awards, where Hamilton took to the carpet in a Dior custom pinstriped jacket with a crystal waterfall embellishment on the waist.    Hamilton strays from the pack in every aspect of his life, so naturally, when F1 released the special additional helmets for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hamilton swapped his iconic yellow headpiece and opted for full-on silver glitter. While his peers chose to reference career milestones or pay tribute to remote-controlled cars, Hamilton chose the path of most resistance, not unlike his driving strategy. Inspiration for this new helmet came directly from the race’s venue, the city of lights.
