THE RUNDOWN
- Callum Turner is currently the frontrunner for Amazon MGM’s James Bond movie.
- The film was announced earlier this year with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill as the previous leads for the role.
- Turner’s engagement to British singer Dua Lipa was confirmed in June this year.
We haven’t exactly been hanging off every rumour about the next James Bond film. Call it a lifelong aversion to sleazy one-liners and aggressive martini orders. But news that Dua Lipa’s fiancé, 34-year-old Callum Turner, might be stepping into Bond’s gleaming Oxfords? Now we’re listening.
Since Amazon MGM announced earlier this year that it would take the reins of the iconic franchise, speculation has swirled over who will next don the tuxedo in one of cinema’s most enduring leading roles. The first Bond film, based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name, premiered in 1962 with Sean Connery as the suave, skirt-chasing secret agent. Though often undone by his love interests, Connery’s Bond was a hit — he starred in seven films between 1962 and 1983.
The role has since been played by Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and, most recently, Daniel Craig, whose 2006 debut was widely praised for injecting the franchise with a darker, more rugged masculinity. Since the project was announced, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill have been frontrunners for the franchise (Sydney Sweeney also put herself forward but is somewhat out of favour thanks to her “good jeans”).

But now, British bookies are tipping Turner as the “red-hot” favourite. “We’ve been knocked over with support for Callum Turner in our next James Bond betting over the last 24 hours,” said Coral spokesperson John Hill in a statement to The Standard. “The British actor is now the red-hot favourite for the role.”
Turner got his blockbuster break in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, before pivoting to prestige projects like The Last Letter From Your Lover and Masters of the Air. Most recently, he’s been promoting Eternity, a romantic drama in which he stars opposite Elizabeth Olsen. But around here, he’s best known for being Dua Lipa’s fiancé.
The pair confirmed their engagement earlier this year, with Lipa showing off a sizable diamond ring — and serving some serious European holiday couple content in the process. After scrolling through one too many photos of them sun-drenched in Positano, we’ve decided it: if Turner is Bond, Dua is our Bond girl.

And we like the casting. Turner brings a softer, more fashion-forward energy to the role than Craig. He looks like he could throw a punch but we know his 6’2″ frame looks good in a suit (custom Louis Vuitton, historically). He’s also short of a watch contract, handy given Omega’s longstanding relationship with the Bond franchise. And Callum’s our next Bond, then Dua’s already got the credentials: she’s got the full suit of bikinis, the accent, and more hits than a 007 fight scene.
In a Sunday Times interview earlier this year, Turner revealed he and Dua Lipa met while reading the same book. “We sat next to each other and realised we were reading the same book, which was crazy,” he said. That book? Trust by Hernan Diaz—a Pulitzer Prize-winning metafictional novel about a mysterious financier during the 1929 Wall Street crash.
We’re prepared to petition Amazon for this bookish Bond power couple.
