Even if Francesco Risso’s madcap creations at Marni can feel otherworldly, like sartorial dispatches from a Dr. Seussian planet far away, his clothes have found a home in NYC. New Yorkers like clothes with big personalities to match their own: an enormous candy-striped mohair sweater tied around the shoulder, or a breathtakingly-cut pinstripe suit with swapped-around panels paired with teeny-tiny shorts. A smart Uniqlo x Marni line earlier this year introduced a whole new audience to Risso’s cult-favorite clothes. So it was only natural that Risso would touch down in New York—Brooklyn, to be exact—to present one of his most out-there collections yet, a whirlwind of acid-dosed cowboy-cut jeans, cropped, abstracted knit tops, and a few wickedly lustrous panné velvet suits (including one worn by the artist and Marni-head Tyler Mitchell).

Just as exciting was what the New York chapter of the Marni fan club wore to the show, held on the cobblestone streets of Dumbo and set to a live orchestral accompaniment composed by Dev Hynes. Check out who showed up and how they got down at the wildest fashion show of the season so far.
