Meet The Block 2025 Contestants Before The Renovations Begin

The 21st season of The Block is almost upon us, and it’s about time, because we’re relying on the comfort of this renovations show to see us through the rest of winter. Kicking off on July 27, this season of The Block is apparently getting back to basics, with drama taking a backseat while five couples head to Daylesford in Victoria for their chance at winning a lifechanging amount of money.

Speaking with The Age ahead of the show’s premiere, host Scott Cam said the houses themselves are different are a bit different to previous years. For the first time, the houses will be build from scratch, with the couples all renovating houses with exactly the same layout. This means, couples won’t be able to claim other contestants have advantages they don’t, with this uniformity levelling the playing field.

So, who will be battling it out for the $100,000 prize money? Ahead, we’re introducing you to all the couples in The Block 2025.

The couples who will build a house in Daylesford are:
● Plumber Sonny (44) and dental practice manager Alicia (42), married couple from QLD
● Barber Robby (37) and hairdresser Mat (41), best mates from SA
● Geologist Han (29) and social media and marketing analyst Can (31), couple from WA
● Police officer Britt (30) and police officer Taz (30), married couple from WA
● Dance teacher Em (33) and engineer Ben (32), married couple from VIC

Britt and Taz are a married couple hailing from Newman, a mining town that’s a 12-hour drive from Perth. The pair have plenty in common with one another, both being 30-year-old police officers, and according to their official bios, they met one another on a dating app 10 years ago, and have been married for three years. They have two children (Carter, 4, and Myla, 2).

They admit that they haven’t ever renovated a whole house, but think their hardworking attitudes and experience with smaller projects will give them an advantage on The Block. “I would say we could be classed as amateur renovators,” Taz said.

“We have done lots of things ourselves like window bench seats, paving and landscaping, but never something like the scale of The Block,” Britt added.

Han And Can

Another couple making the trip over from Western Australia, Han and Can (aka Hannah and Candice) only met one year ago and immediately decided they wanted to go on The Block together. “I have always wanted to do The Block but never had anyone to do it with,” Han said.

In terms of renovation experience, they have both been exposed to construction and real estate thanks to their families. Han is a geologist who has spent time working with her father and helping him renovate houses, so is likely to be the one getting on the tools and project managing the site. Meanwhile, Can is a creative who works in social media and marketing, so we expect she’ll be looking after much of the styling (and shopping) this season.

Emma And Ben

Emma and Ben are finally joining The Block after applying for the show for seven years. The superfans clearly want this more than perhaps any other contestant this season and also bring the most renovations experience with them to Daylesford. Emma is a dance teacher and Ben is an engineer and aspiring firefighter, but that’s not where their skills start and end.

Before focusing on her career as a dance teacher, Emma was a woodwork teacher, while Ben of course has experience as an engineer and says he’s also helped his aunt flip houses his whole life. They also have a hometown advantage coming into the season as Melbourne locals, which will be handy when creating their mid-century dream home on the show.

Robby And Mat

Robby and Mat are Adelaide locals who have been best mates for 15 years. They probably have the least renovations experience of all the couples on The Block 2025, and are both business owners, Roby is a barber and Mat is a hairdresser and stylist. While that may sound entirely unrelated to their current challenge, as business owners, they’re expert project managers and we all know that The Block can be won or lost based on project management.

Though the pair are excited for the opportunity, they both admit that they wouldn’t have guessed going on The Block would be on the cards for them, even a year ago. “I was sitting at home and my partner Alyssa said myself and Mat would be great on The Block and here we are,” Rob said. Mat added: “If someone had told me with a crystal ball the likelihood of going on The Block or my house burning down, I would have said our house burning down.”

It looks like Robby will be on the trades this season while Mat is in charge of styling.  “I think a lot of people will connect with us really well,” Robby said ahead of the show’s premiere.

Sonny And Alicia

Sonny and Alicia bring a wealth of renovation experience to The Block, having previously build their family home and renovating a granny flat. “We are by no means epic renovators, but not completely green,” Sonny explained.

Looking at their career paths makes it pretty clear who will be taking on which role on The Block. Sonny has been a plumber for 25 years, which will come in very handy during the dreaded bathroom weeks. Meanwhile, Alicia is a dental practice manager, and she admits that she’s not afraid of speaking her mind. “If something is bothering me I will say it,” she says. They also have admitted that they might be the bickering couple of the season, though they move on quickly.
