In the penultimate episode of the first season of Meghan Markle’s “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast, the As Ever founder spoke with Kitsch founder and CEO Cassandra Morales Thurswell and shared about how her experience having kids was not exactly how she’d planned.

In the May 20 episode, the two women—who have a deep history together going way back to Meghan’s days as an actress—spoke about a wide variety of topics, with the Duchess of Sussex saying at one point that having kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet was “not the way I envisioned it.”

Meghan said she always wanted to be a mother, but that the reality of pregnancy and motherhood wasn’t exactly how she saw it playing out. “I’ve always wanted to be a mom,” Meghan said—and a working mom at that, she added.

“I was like, ‘Oh gosh, I’m going to give a speech with a baby on my hip,’” she said on the show. “I had a whole vision. You fast forward—granted, I had a lot of external things happening by the time I had both pregnancies and both babies”—no doubt referring to Meghan and Prince Harry’s life as working royals before Archie’s 2019 birth and their life after stepping back as working royals before Lilibet’s 2021 birth.

“It was not the way I envisioned it,” Meghan continued.

Meghan shared in the episode that she is close friends with Thurswell’s cousin, Heather, and Thurswell added—after Meghan called her “Cassie” instead of Cassandra—that only her immediate family calls her by that moniker, “and Meghan Markle,” Thurswell said.

“It’s like ‘Meg’ or ‘M,’” Thurswell added, listing off a couple of Meghan’s nicknames. “It’s the same thing. It’s how we met all those years ago. It’s so sweet. I mean, we met in a very sliding glass door moments of our lives.”

Meghan hired Thurswell to style her closet, “and you coming to my little house that I was renting,” Meghan said. “And I remember my closet. Do you remember that closet door was within the bathroom?”

“You had to walk through my bedroom, past my bed, past the shower and the sink, which were right there, and the toilet,” Meghan continued. “And then right across from that was the door that opened into my very small closet, to which I said, ‘Cassie, can you help make this stylish and give me a vibe?’ To which she said yes.”

Meghan mentioned paying $200 for a pair of black patent leather Christian Louboutin wedge flats—adding that was “as much as I pay” for shoes. Meghan said she “wore those shoes ‘til the red wore out” (referring, of course, to the famous red soles of Louboutins) and the shoes were good luck, it turns out, as Meghan shared that she “wore those shoes on my final audition for Suits when I booked the part.”

Season 1 of Meghan’s first podcast with Lemonada Media wraps next Tuesday, May 27; there’s no word yet on a second season of the show.
