Nigeria to promote cleaner energy in textiles

ABUJA – Nigeria’s federal government and the United Nations’ Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) have outlined plans to increase the use of cleaner energy in industries including textiles, steel, food and petrochemicals.

The steering committee for the new project, which will head up efforts to improve Nigeria’s energy performance, was announced at an inauguration event in the capital of Abuja.

“To protect ourselves and the environment from the harmful effects of inefficient production processes, there is the need to encourage best practices in our industrial processes and its success requires the participation of all stakeholders,” said Minister of State for the Environment, Sharon Ikeazor.
