This week, former One Direction singer Zayn Malik appeared on the Call Me Daddy podcast and made comments about his ex Gigi Hadid that were honestly entirely unnecessary. When asked by the podcast’s host Alex Cooper to clarify past comments where he said, “I don’t know if I’ve actually truly been in love at this point,” on The Zach Zang Show.
“You said in an interview that you don’t know if you’ve ever truly been in love. Do you still stand by that?” the podcast’s host, Alex Cooper posed to Malik. “Yeah, because my understanding of love is always developing, you know. At that moment in time, I might’ve thought it was love but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised maybe it wasn’t. Maybe it was lust… I don’t feel like it was love.”
He then clarified what this all means in the context of his relationship with Gigi Hadid. “To be fair, like, just to say this on record, I will always love G because she is the reason my child is on this earth and I have the utmost respect for her. I’ll always love her but I don’t know if I was ever in love with her.”

He then quickly doubled down, saying, “I do love her a crazy amount, but no, I don’t think I was in love with her at that point”.
Malik and Hadid were first reported to be dating in 2015 and they share one child, a daughter named Khai who is now five years old. Their relationship was reasonably private, though they did make semi regular appearances together over the next six years, including attending the Met Gala together, but their relationship officially ended in 2021.
The news follows reports that Malik had allegedly “struck” Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, during an argument. He later denied the allegations and pleaded no contest to the charges. He received 360 days of probation as a result of the alleged incident.
Since they split, Hadid has been in a steady relationship with actor Bradley Cooper, who she was first linked to in 2023. By all accounts, Hadid seems to be happy with Cooper, and we we couldn’t happier for her to be in a seemingly loving relationship now.
