The 82nd Venice International Film Festival is officially underway, bringing a swathe of glamourous celebrities and public figures to the Lido di Venezia for a celebration the arts. Running from August 27 to September 6, the festival delivers one of the most anticipated red carpets of the year, making it a particularly exciting event for avid fashion watchers and cinephiles alike.
Organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, the 11-day festival aims to raise awareness and promote international cinema, all in the spirit of freedom and dialogue and with the hopes of restoring classic films to better understand the history of cinema.
The 2025 festival opened with Paolo Sorrentino’s La Grazia, with Cate Blanchett re-wearing an Armani Privé gown, and Barbara Palvin in a black custom Intimissimi gown. Over the coming days, a number of major films will make their much-anticipated debut. Noah Baumbach’s coming-of-age dramedy, Jay Kelly, is one such film, thanks to the all-star cast that includes George Clooney, Riley Keough, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, and Greta Gerwig.
Emma Stone will return to the Lido this year for Bugonia, and will no doubt charm the red carpet, while Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield are expected to appear with co=stars Ayo Edebiri and Chloë Sevigny for their roles in Luca Guadagnino’s thriller. Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited take on Frankenstein, featuring Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, is finally getting it’s debut, and Sofia Coppola will show her latest documentary, Marc by Sofia about Marc Jacobs.
