What To Look For In Quality Jewellery

If you’re after jewellery that won’t tarnish, there are a few key things to look for. When shopping for silver jewellery think of the quality on a scale of 1 to 925, with 925 being the best silver you can buy.

As for gold, well, there are four types: solid gold, gold-filled, gold-vermeil and gold-plated.

Solid gold is typically the highest quality jewellery you can get. Coming in various grades described as karats—14K, 18K and the highest, 24K—solid gold won’t tarnish. Gold-filled, gold-vermeil and gold-plated jewellery involves a layer of gold being applied to a cheaper base metal, but still have a great lifespan and minimal tarishing depending on the outer layer of gold.
