The Heat Is On: How We’re Dressing This Summer

The Resort 2026 collections arrived with a clear directive: embrace duality. As designers from Gucci to Celine unveiled their vision for summer, a compelling narrative emerged, where glamour meets ease, and polish finds its playful counterpoint, each collection declared how we will be dressing this summer.

After dark, think liquid metallics and diaphanous satins that catch the light with every movement. Come daylight, we’ll be channelling collegiate cool through sharp blazers, cable knits, and miniskirts reimagined with cargo pockets and pleated precision. It’s a season of contrasts. Sequined minidresses for evening soirées, crisp shirting for morning coffee runs.

Sparks Will Fly

If shine is a language, then this season designers are fluent. From liquid golds to moonlit silvers, metallics ruled the runway with celestial conviction. Celine offered a subtle nod in the form of shimmering crochet-effect gowns. Christian Dior kept it long and floaty — sheer fabrics teasing glimpses of skin — while JW Anderson went small, layering sequins on a minidress that glimmered like fish scales. Whether disco-coded or delicately diaphanous, this season, metallics are the moment.

Miniskirts are back, baby, but not as you remember them. MSGM bubbled its creations into cargo form, pockets front and centre — practical enough for errands, playful enough to swipe on a whim. Self-Portrait and Sacai kept things light; skirts cut to hover just above the knee, swinging with motion as if mid-twirl. Balmain went pleated, sharp at the waist but easy at the hem, the kind of style that could take you from coffee runs to rooftop cocktails without missing a beat. They’re brief, they’re bold, and they’re entirely chic.

Sharpen your pencils, fashion school is in session. At Celine, preppy staples — that would be a blazer, vest, crisp shirt and pleated trousers — get a high-fashion twist in block colours and just-so tucking and folding. Chanel’s cable knits — a campus classic — are reimagined in varsity colours, while Victoria Beckham embraces her inner Sporty Spice with chic trackpants and cropped hoodies. Class dismissed.

Nights In White Satin

Satin has a new mood this season: lighter, creamier, and with a hint of suggestion. Alberta Ferretti showed fluid tailoring in the palest shades with suits that moved like they owned the room. Victoria Beckham reworked the slip dress, keeping the neckline modest while teasing an open back. At Ferragamo, sharp A-lines gave way to soft folds, proof that polish doesn’t have to feel stiff, especially in the all-white palette this season favours. Smooth, sleek and chic — consider it your new second skin.
