Have you felt a frisson through your algorithm recently? An excess of flesh in your feed? Reports from the US are telling us we may be en route to a “horny girl summer”, spearheaded by the pop girlies. That’s right, while we’re deep in Australian winter, the pioneers of the sexy trend are working hard stateside, and on the shores of Europe, to pave the way for hornier, more frolicksome warmer months ahead.
Case in point: Addison Rae and Lana Del Rey’s stirring duet of pop-your-cherry ballad “Diet Pepsi” to a crowd of enthusiastic women and Sabrina Carpenter’s coquettish trolling of her fans (can’t a lady maybe probably be into kink?). Justin and Hailey Bieber joined in on the raunch, launching Swag and putting divorce rumours to rest with a family cover shoot where both appeared in a state of semi-undress, and we love that for them. Even Lorde attributed her new single Hammer to the simple influence of “city life and horniness.”
Then there’s Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa’s near-permanent state of European vacation. We’ve seen more of these two’s bikini bodies in the last month than we have in our whole lives. Sure, Kylie’s hard at work (aboard a yacht with her lover, according to Daily Mail) promoting her Khy x Frankies Bikinis collection but we’re still been seeing plenty of skimpy archival Chanel bikini moments from the entrepreneur. And, while Dua is engaged, she’s not letting a betrothal stop her thirst trapping the grid. May she never.
Meanwhile, the girls are hard at work promoting Pucci Girl summer, an adjacent trend spearheading the revival of sultry, skimpy and even a little… dare we say slutty (complimentary) Y2K brands like Roberto Cavalli and Blumarine.
And this isn’t reserved for individuals. As Nylon has reported, the “Internet Boyfriend industrial complex has reared its head.”
The powers that be (Hailey and Haim) are recruiting some of the sexiest boys on the internet to promote their work. Haim cast a trio of hotties for their deeply thirsty All Over Me music video, and Hailey Bieber tapped original Babygirl Harris Dickinson to get sweaty and lubricated for the launch of the mist iteration of Rhode’s famously… milky essence. Pete Davidson and his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt even got in on the action, announcing their baby news with a frisky post (“everyone’s going to know we had sex”).
What does this horny girl agenda look like in practice?
We’re anticipating particularly clingy looks once the weather warms up. Think short, sheer and plunging with no care for balance. Whether it’s sheer lace, braless, a bikini in lieu of a top or an off-the-shoulder white dress that rides up *just so* on a motorcycle a la Sabrina Carpenter, anything can be horny girl when worn with the right attitude.
