Fans have been waiting *very patiently* for news on the Legally Blonde series, and now we finally have the major update you’ve been dying to know: who will play Elle Woods.
In a video posted to her social media, Reese Witherspoon—i.e. the original Elle Woods and producer of the upcoming Legally Blonde spin-off series—shared the news with the actress who will fill her shoes. And—drum roll, please—we’re pleased to introduce you to your new Elle Woods, Lexi Minetree.
Lexi is an American actress, who, until now, has mostly had small parts in US TV series, like Law & Order: SVU. Upon telling Minetree the good news, Witherspoon revealed that when she saw her audition tape she thought, “Are we the same person?” Sharing that same Elle Woods vivaciousness, it’s clear there is a resemblance between the two actresses.
Rumours of additions to the Legally Blonde film franchise have been floating around for years, with Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling originally rumoured to have been working on a film. Given that’s never eventuated, we now have a Legally Blonde series in the works.
Appearing at Amazon’s upfront presentations in May 2024, Witherspoon announced her production company, Hello Sunshine, would be producing the Legally Blonde prequel series, titled Elle.

News of the TV series first broke in April, with Variety confirming a show ‘set in the Legally Blonde universe’. At the time, however, details were sparse. As it turns out, there are actually two potential Legally Blonde spin-offs in the works at Amazon, with only Elle confirmed for now. Here’s everything we know.
What Is The Legally Blonde TV Series About?
The Legally Blonde TV series is actually a prequel called Elle. Created by Laura Kittrell, the series will follow a young Elle Woods (the role originated by Witherspoon) in her high school years.
The original Legally Blonde film, released in 2001, followed Elle, a recently-dumped sorority sister who heads to Harvard to win back her ex-boyfriend only to realise she’s a darn good lawyer.
The TV series will, according to Deadline, show how the life experiences of young Elle shaped her into the character we love.
“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do,” Witherspoon said at the Amazon up-fronts. “What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell – for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

Who Has Been Cast In The Legally Blonde TV Series?
As of February 2025, we have our first official cast member for Elle. The TV series will star Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods.
We’re not sure if Reese will take on a role in front of the camera. However, given there’s a new Elle Woods in the house, she would have to cameo as an entirely different character.
What Is The Release Date?
We don’t currently have an ETA on the series’ release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
Where To Watch The Legally Blonde TV Series
Given it’s being made by Amazon Studios, one can assume the series will be available on Prime Video.
Is There A Second Series In The Works?
Apparently so. While only Elle has been confirmed for now, Deadline previously reported that two Legally Blonde spin-off projects were in the works at Amazon Studios. The second, is reported penned by Gossip Girl writers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Stay tuned for more announcements.
