There has arguably never been a more exciting time in fashion. With so many new designers taking the reins at the biggest Houses in the world, our eyes were firmly fixed on the runway this season — watching Jonathan Anderson at Dior and Matthieu Blazy at Chanel settling into their strides (and, for Australians waving farewell to summer, no better time for inspiration from the biggest runways in the world to strike).
But often the fashion moments most pertinent to our real lives unfolded outside — on the cobblestone streets and café-lined streets of Copenhagen and Paris, as editors, models, buyers, and the occasional well-dressed celebrity made their way to the shows.
These fashion insiders are wearing provides us with endless inspiration in the art of getting dressed – from beauty looks that work in perfect synchronicity with an outfit to expert layering, and even at shows like Miu Miu, where it is de rigeur for guests to arrive dressed in the brand, how guests make similar looks entirely their own. Or, simply the presence of a guest whose look captures the eye and emphasises the importance of wearing whatever you’re wearing with confidence and a certain je ne sais quoi.
From Copenhagen, it was a masterclass in outerwear — faux fur dominated; headwear, whether netted caps or balaclavas, was ubiquitous; as were flashes of red and Yves Klein Blue. By the time the circuit reached Paris, the mood shifted with artful trans-seasonal layering and grey-on-grey dressing.
