The EOFY sales have officially kicked off—or, as we like to call it, the Winter Olympics for fashion people who refresh their carts (and browser tabs) with day-trader energy.
For the fiscally responsible and fashionably inclined, this isn’t just a chance to save—it’s our moment to shine. But before you hit “add to cart” on a fourth pair of jeans, let’s talk strategy.
ELLE’s Edit Of The Best On Sale Finds:
- Best Currently Trending: Dyson Airwrap Complete Long, $696
- Best Designer Find: The Row Anasta Leather Jacket, $2,412
- Best Under $250: COS Stand Collar Satin Tuxedo Blazer, $217
- Best Little Luxury: The Conran Shop Red Dapple Vase, $60
That designer piece you’ve been stalking since late summer? Now’s the time to strike. The real wins are premeditated: a Toteme coat you’ll wear for the next five winters, or Jil Sander flats that finally make sense at 60% off, mentally amortised.
Let’s not forget—Carrie Bradshaw once spent $40,000 on shoes and lost her apartment. Iconic? Absolutely. But also a cautionary tale. Sale season is a breeding ground for bad decisions (like crystal flats instead of cashmere socks, for someone who works from home).
So buy the good grey knit you always wish you had. Revisit what you wore on repeat last season. And if you’re going to splurge on something irrational, wear it relentlessly.

What Time Of The Year Has The Best Sales?
Timing your fashion shopping to align with sale periods can save you a significant amount of money. Below are the best times throughout the given calendar year where you’ll be able to score enormous discounts on fashion pieces that might otherwise have been outside of your budget:
- Black Friday: This falls on the first Friday after the American Thanksgiving holiday in November. The timing of the sales can vary with each retailer, with some brands offering discounts in the days or even weeks leading up to Black Friday.
- Cyber Monday: This annual one-day shopping event occurs on the Monday after the American Thanksgiving holiday.
- Click Frenzy: Click Frenzy hosts two bug shopping sales each year, with the first one being Click Frenzy Mayhem in May and the second one falling in November, known as Click Frenzy The Main Event. There are also smaller additional Click Frenzy sales sprinkled throughout the year so it’s always wise to keep a lookout as they can pop up at any time.
- End of Financial Year Sale: This recurring round of discounts coincides with the end of Australia’s financial year on 30 June.
- Boxing Day: This falls on December 26, the day after Christmas Day. Retailers use this sale to get rid of old stock for the new year.
- At the end of major seasons: Many fashion brands look to clear out their inventory at the end of each season to make room for the new season of arrivals. For example, summer clothes will go on sale at the end of summer, winter clothes at the end of winter and so on.
- Specific brand sales: The timing of all the yearly sales will vary widely across all retailers but many retailers will also host their own smaller sales throughout the year. To keep an eye on these special sales, we recommend signing up to the retailer’s email list so you can be notified as soon as the sale starts — or even a few days before.
