‘Unsustainable’ packaging a deal breaker, consumer survey says

LONDON – New research conducted by packaging firm DS Smith has highlighted the need for companies across industry to adopt more sustainable forms of product packaging, with almost a third of respondents indicating that they have stopped buying from brands because they deemed their use of packaging ‘unsustainable’.

DS Smith, with help from market research outfit Ipsos Mori, surveyed 9,000 people of varying ages across 12 European countries to determine the extent to which product packaging affects the consumer’s perception of the brands they buy from.

“This new research not only reveals what has changed because of COVID-19, it also shows what priorities have endured and that sustainability is still front of mind for consumers across Europe,” said DS Smith chief executive, Stefano Rossi.
