We Found The Exact Orange Lipstick Taylor Swift Wears On ‘New Heights’

It’s been a very, very big week for Taylor Swift. Fresh off confirming her new album The Life of a Showgirl quite suddenly and following a quick succession of hints on August 12, the artist sat down with Travis and Jason Kelce for an episode of their New Heights podcast. Though of course, we were all focused on the biggest revelations from the podcast episode (including more detail about the moment Swift decided to date Travis), some of us were a bit distracted by her lipstick.

The matte orange lip was an obvious departure from her signature red, and as many fans have pointed out, it of course is in-line with the orange-hued rollout for her next era. Ushering in The Life of a Showgirl, which is an exciting moment in Swift’s post-Eras-tour-era, with a new signature lip feels correct.

Interestingly, the lipstick choice itself also marks a departure from her usual beauty routine. Swift has long favoured Pat McGrath as her go-to for a matte red lipstick, specifically wearing LiquiLUST Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick in the shade Elson 4. Now, many believe that she’s made the switch to NARS, at least for the New Heights interview. And specifically, NARS Morocco Lipstick, $43.

It’s difficult to know the precise lipstick she’s wearing without confirmation from her makeup artist, Lorrie Turk, though in October 2024, Turk said Swift has worn this exact shade “for years”. It hasn’t yet been confirmed that’s what she’s wearing in New Heights, but we’re pretty confident. As expected, the lipstick sold out almost immediately after Swift wearing it, so we suggest putting an alert on for when it comes back in stock, or using a postal forwarding service to shop from the American website.

In our view, Swift’s orange lip moment isn’t just a beauty experiment. For years, red has been a Swift trademark, immortalised in song lyrics, album names, and her signature Eras Tour look of course featured the red lip colour. Switching to orange feels deliberate signal that change is in the air. It’s a subtle but important change that still retains the bold spirit of her classic lip.

Along with the album rollout, which featured the colour orange heavily, from the 12 photos released with her wearing orange, to the glittering orange background of her website during the initial countdown, it clearly means something. Hints of this shift have been appearing for months. During the Eras Tour, orange confetti appeared in certain shows, and some of her surprise looks during the Eras Tour leaned into the shade long before the official reveal. It’s now clear those moments were early breadcrumbs for the new aesthetic.

Culturally speaking, in religions like Buddhism, the colour orange signifies transformation, with monks wearing orange robes as a symbol of spiritual transformation and enlightenment.

The same is true in Confucianism, where transformative orange is the perfect balance of yellow and red, or happiness and power. The latter also has people thinking about Travis Kelce, and specifically the colours of his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, which are red and yellow. It’s hardly surprising then that the pair gave some heartwarming insights into their own relationship during the New Heights episode.

By choosing orange for such a huge announcement, Swift has tied her beauty look directly to her album’s identity.
