Lena Dunham‘s highly anticipated romantic comedy series, Too Much, drops onto Netflix today and, say it with me now: we are so back. The series was announced in 2024, and the prospect of receiving another coming-of-age production from the writer and actor immediately had fans excited for the imminent Lena Dunham renaissance.
While Dunham was an iconic figure — particularly amongst millennial women — for her work as the creator, writer, and star of Girls, Dunham has largely stayed clear of the public eye in the last few years. She relocated to London in 2021, and told The New York Times in an interview that at the time, she’d largely given up on love. “The rest of my life is just going to be about my family and my animals and my job,” she remembered telling herself.

Now, that move appears to have loosely inspired the series, Too Much, which Dunham has said is loosely based on her life, and the early reviews for the series have also arrived, with The New York Times saying they made the rom-com “just right”. If that’s enough to already have you hooked, then you’re in luck, because it launches at 5pm on July 10. Here’s everything we know.
Where To Watch Too Much
Lena Dunham’s new series, Too Much, will drop onto Netflix on July 10, at 5pm. You can stream the 10-episode miniseries right here.
What Is Too Much About?
The semi-autobiographical series follows Jessica Salmon (who is played by Megan Stalter), a “workaholic New Yorker who is reeling from a brutal break-up with her long-term partner of seven years,” according to Netflix. But as she heads back to her grandma’s house to wallow in the safe embrace of her family, which ends up being more of “an intergenerational Grey Gardens hell of single women and one hairless dog”, a movie night inspires her to move to London.

It’s here that the story really picks up, and we watch as she begins a life of solitude… for about five minutes before the rom-com vibes start to really roll in.
Who Is In The Cast Of Too Much?
Though Dunham does appear in the series, the Too Much cast is lead by Megan Stalter. Salter is is a comedian and actor who got her big break as Kayla on HBO series, Hacks, but she got her start as a TikTok star, and has made the transition from internet from internet star to TV star look effortless.

She stars opposite Will Sharpe, who you will absolutely recognise from his role as Aubrey Plaza’s surly, running-obsessed husband in the second season of The White Lotus. In Too Much, he joins as Felix, an indie musician who captures Jessica’s attention when she moves to London.

The cast also includes relative newcomer Aylin Scott as Cheryl, Antonio Aakeel as Raven, Alaa Habib as Lea, and Emily Piggford as Alaia. It also looks like there will be many, many cameos from iconic actors like Emily Ratajkowski, Naomi Watts, Andrew Scott, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Fry, Kit Harrington, and Rita Wilson, who all appear in one episode each.
